Costs

Interest in remodeling remains high, but home owners are more conservative about costs in light of declining home prices, a survey of 5,000 U.S. home owners by Remodelestimates.com found.

The Web site, which provides information on home remodeling trends and costs, found that of the home owners, who were all contemplating remodeling, 16 percent plan to use economical materials, up from 8 percent in 2006.

Home owners who plan to do some of them work themselves rose from 60 percent in 2005 to 64 percent in 2007.

Home owners who don’t plan to hire a general contractor rose from 25 percent in 2005 to 36 percent in 2007.
