West Haven, CA – June 6, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Well the season for strong storms has arrived, which are typically followed by beautiful weather. Unfortuantely, these severe weather patterns are also follwed by storm chasers, and not the kind looking to catch a cow flying through the air on video. These storm chasers are looking to take advantage of bewildered, confused, and desperate homeowners looking to get their homes back in good shape as soon as possible. Most of these so called contractors don’t even live in, or around where the damaging weather has taken place. They simply live by the motto “Have Truck & Magnetic Signs Willing to Travel”. They ride into town, offer cut-rate pricing, fast start and completion dates. All of which sounds, and is, too good to be true.
While the immediate urge is there to hurry up and get the work done, we strongly encourage you to take your time. Remember, the good contractors are going to be busy, which means you may have to wait longer than you like to get the ball rolling. Your patience will ultimately pay dividends as you will only have to pay once to get the work done as opposed to losing your down payment or in somecases every dime the insurance company provided to repair the damages.
Florida State Attorney General Bondi has recently issued a warning for residents to be weary of un-licensed contractors. That is great advice, not only for Floridians, but every home owner. Also, never pay cash to any one, money orders are cash. In addition, make sure your checks are made out to a business, never a personal name.
