Green Retrofit Financing Forum aims to help developers and policymakers better understand finance options for “greening” existing affordable housing
WASHINGTON, DC – July 19, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The Green Affordable Housing Coalition kicks off its first forum Wednesday, July 20, convening experts in housing preservation, finance, and green retrofits for a discussion on how to address challenges and barriers to finding the financial support needed to “green” existing affordable housing. Key issues to be discussed include what green retrofit financing sources are available now, what financing sources are still needed, and what roadblocks could interfere with much-needed green retrofits of multifamily affordable housing.
The forum is geared towards developers and policymakers, and it provides them with information on existing and forthcoming programs and funding options for green retrofits. Panelists will cover policy ideas, examples of successful implementation, and expertise in areas including new lending programs, green capital needs assessments, underwriting, policy design and implementation for green affordable housing. This forum is just the first of many planned by the Green Affordable Housing Coalition, a group actively advocating for the development and preservation of green, healthy, affordable housing.
National Housing Conference Vice President for Policy and Advocacy Ethan Handelman will moderate the forum. The panel consists of housing professionals and experts on key green issues, and will include Chrissa Pagitsas, multifamily green initiative program manager for Fannie Mae; Rick Samson, president of SAHF Energy; Theodore Toon, director of the Office of Affordable Housing Preservation, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; and Todd Trehubenko, chief executive officer of Recap Real Estate Advisors.
The forum—sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council, Enterprise Community Partners and the National Housing Conference—will be held at the U.S. Green Building Council at 2101 L St., N.W., Washington, D.C., from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. and the event will end with a networking session from 11:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
