New Housing Project Set to Break Ground in Boston; Nixon Peabody Advises Rogerson Communities on 70+ Unit Development

Boston, MA – August 1, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP announces that its clients Rogerson Communities and Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center have announced plans to commence construction on a $30 million affordable housing development in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood. The groundbreaking for the eight-floor, 100,000-square-foot building, which will include 74 new apartments for low-income elderly, is scheduled for August 4, 2011.

Rogerson was advised by a Nixon Peabody LLP legal team. The cross-office, cross-practice team of attorneys focused on a range of varying and complex affordable housing and real estate issues, in addition addressing historic development and environmental concerns.

Jeffrey W. Sacks, a Nixon Peabody partner and the legal team’s leader, added, “This is a very complex project that involves bringing together a range of federal, state, and city government entities as well as private philanthropies to create the resources necessary to allow this project to proceed. Witnessing the start of construction represents more than five years of work to coordinate the necessary permitting approvals and financing.”

“We relied on all those involved to help bring this development to the city. This was a difficult but important project for us to complete,” said James Seagle, president of Rogerson Communities. “It’s an exciting time for real estate development in the city of Boston and we are looking forward to future projects,” Seagle added.
