Washington, DC – August 2, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — As the citizens of Joplin rebuild in the aftermath of the May tornados, the connection between home ownership, strong families and resilient communities has never been more salient. On Thursday, August 4, the National Association of Realtors® will join Joplin Mayor Mike Woolston in recognizing the efforts of Realtors® and others in restoring the homes and heart of the city.

NAR 2011 Vice President and Liaison to Committees Elizabeth Mendenhall will join Missouri Association of Realtors® President Joyce Thomas to present the Ozark Gateway Association of Realtors® President Cheryl Efird with a $73,000 check for Joplin relief efforts. Families who have been affected by the tornado’s aftermath will attend, and Mayor Woolston, Mendenhall, Thomas and Efird will also be available for media interviews following the event.

This event is part of NAR’s Home Ownership Matters nationwide bus tour. The bus is currently touring the country, giving people the opportunity and resources to make their voices heard about the housing issues that matter most to them. Last month the bus drove through Alabama, including stops in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, to present additional donations collected from Realtors® across the country. Ongoing news and information for the tour will be posted at www.houselogic.com/bus.

The National Association of Realtors®, “The Voice for Real Estate,” is America’s largest trade association, representing 1.1 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
