Zephyr Agent Nicki Randolph Champions Clementina Cares

San Francisco, CA – August 11, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Zephyr Realtor Nicki Randolph believes in the concept of leaving things better than you find them. She serves on the all-volunteer Board of Directors for Clementina Cares, a neighborhood organization that has raised the bar for community action.

Clementina Cares is a group in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco who work to keep the neighborhood clean, green and safe, focusing on the area between Third and Sixth Streets and Howard Street and Shipley Alley, covering approximately 2,000 residents and businesses. Their cause is to reduce crime, promote a clean, safe and appealing environment and to embrace the diversity of living in San Francisco. They have organized daily street cleaning, a mural project, block parties and planted trees along the alleyways. Clementina Cares is a nonprofit group, and no one on the Board of Directors has ever received a salary.

Randolph’s role is primarily with fundraisers and acting as liaison with business people in the community. “I love this grassroots organization. I am from Ohio and came of age in the Sixties, so taking a small bite of a community and taking concrete action to make a difference is rewarding and satisfying,” she commented. “By reaching out and paying attention to what is going on in your neighborhood, you can make a big difference, and Clementina Cares is a perfect example of that.”

Its current endeavor is the Living Wall Project, which will be located on an exterior wall at 12 Gallagher Lane, a gallery in the emerging Art District or Gallery Row. The goal is to interweave public art, creative greening and urban design in the neighborhood, and this project is one of many that will be installed over the next 10 years making SOMA a distinct cultural experience. This unique “living sculpture” is designed by Paul Kephart, Lead Ecologist and Designer for Rana Creek, a leader in vegetative systems. Kephart is considered an expert, and his portfolio includes the roof at the California Academy of Sciences, the 5.4-acre rooftop park for the Transbay Terminal and major institutions around the world.

The neighborhood will benefit from this “living” project as a demonstration and learning opportunity of a low-maintenance and high-value investment. Funding for the project comes from the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District, as well as major gifts from individuals and businesses in the area, including Zephyr Real Estate and personally from Randolph. The Living Wall Project is expected to launch in October with a gala event that will include local media, government representatives, local businesses, contributors and resident stakeholders.

“Living walls provide beauty, thermal heating and cooling, absorb noise and offer a valuable habitat for local insects and birds,” according to Foster Weeks, President of Clementina Cares. “It will also brand our neighborhood as a distinct, green, culturally-rich and forward-looking area of our City,” he added.

Clementina Cares won the Best Green Community Project award from Neighborhood Empowerment Network, 2009, and the Beautification Awards, SF Beautiful, 2009.

Prior to dedicating herself to her real estate practice, Randolph spent more than 20 years in the sales and marketing end of the radio and television industry in Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and San Francisco. She was also a schoolteacher in Australia, and is a member in good standing of the San Francisco, California and National Associations of REALTORS®. She resides at the Yerba Buena Lofts, an architecturally-significant building and serves on its Board of Directors.
