IBHS Commends DHS Report Highlighting the Importance of Building Codes

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently released a report entitled including Building Codes in the National Flood Insurance Program, which discusses the feasibility of including model building codes in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The study will be used by Congress to consider whether to make adoption and enforcement of model building codes mandatory for communities participating in the NFIP program. More

Mercy Housing Lakefront teamed up with Charter One employees earlier this fall to get a head start on landscaping at the Pullman Wheelworks Apartments.
The Charter One employee volunteers worked together with Pullman Wheelworks residents to landscape and beautify the exterior of the building. The group planted dozens of shrubs and more than 1,500 flower bulbs. More

Expanded “Green Button” Will Reach Federal Agencies and More American Energy Consumers

President Obama issued a memorandum directing federal agencies to redouble efforts to use renewable energy and manage their energy usage more efficiently and effectively. In addition to setting an ambitious new target for federal agencies to increase their consumption of renewable energy to 20 percent of their total amount of electric energy use by 2020, the memorandum instructs agencies to incorporate the “Green Button” data standard into their energy management practices. Officials give green light to Boston’s first parking-free condo development

Boston regulators Thursday night approved the city’s first parking-free condominium building next to North Station, setting a bold precedent in an effort to reduce automobile use in a densely packed downtown.
The 175-unit building is slated to rise at Lovejoy Wharf, a complex of homes, office, and retail spaces off Causeway Street in the West End. A new headquarters for sneaker company Converse Inc. is already under construction there, and the 15-story residential building will come next. More
