Steve Bomberger Elected as Chairman of NAHB 50+ Housing Council

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 1, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) announced that Steve Bomberger of Wilmington, Del., has been elected as chairman of the NAHB 50+ Housing Council. Bomberger succeeds Robert Karen, managing member of the Symphony Development Group in Owings Mills, Md., and will serve a 1-year term.

Bomberger is president of Benchmark Builders Inc., which began in 1988 and has since built almost 1800 homes in Delaware. While the company has built homes for the general market—semi-custom detached homes, townhomes and smaller move-up homes—the primary focus is on 55+ age-restricted communities.

“I look forward to leading the NAHB 50+ Housing Council and representing my fellow builders,” Bomberger said. “Since 25 percent of the buyers in today’s market are aged 55+, building homes that meet the lifestyles of these customers are not only good business, but it’s key to the long-term vitality of our industry and our communities.”

In addition to his involvement with the 50+ Housing Council, Bomberger serves on the NAHB Budget/Finance Committee, the NAHB Strategic Planning Committee and Single Family Production Builders Committee. He also serves as Delaware’s State Representative to NAHB and is a Trustee for NAHB’s political action committee, BUILD-PAC.

He also served as president of the Home Builders Association of Delaware (HBA/DE) in 2008 and 2009 where he worked with members to establish the association’s Green Building Council, a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to sustainable home building design, construction techniques and energy conservation.

In 2009, Bomberger was awarded the HBA/DE Builder of the Year for the second time, having been honored 10 years prior, making him the only Delaware builder to receive the honor more than once.
