WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 31, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) is saddened by the loss of former Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, who touched the lives of thousands through his work on affordable housing and neighborhood development.

Mayor Menino launched many different affordable housing programs: the Boston Home Center, which offers homebuyers a one-stop service for affordable mortgage financing; the Don’t Borrow Trouble Campaign, which offered homebuyers safe and affordable mortgage products; and the Leading The Way campaign, resulting in the production and preservation of thousands of homes, apartments, and student dorm beds.

Mayor Menino also focused on a comprehensive approach to preventing and reducing homelessness through the 10% Homeless Set Aside Policy, the Single Person Occupancy Initiative, and the Street Seniors Initiative.

The CHAPA staff and Board extend our heartfelt condolences to Mayor Menino’s loved ones. Mayor Menino was a champion for affordable housing and community development and will be sorely missed.
