Consumers Energy Provides Nearly $100,000 Energy Efficiency Incentive Check to Grand Valley State University

Washington, D.C. – January 12, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Energy-efficient building designs for two new Grand Valley State University facilities have earned the school a nearly $100,000 incentive payment from Consumers Energy.

Dan Malone, the company’s senior vice president of energy resources, presented the $98,703 incentive check to Grand Valley officials during a brief presentation this morning.

“Grand Valley is a shining example of how these programs save our customers energy and money,” Malone said. “We fulfill our Promise to care for the communities we serve by helping organizations like GVSU lower and manage their energy bills. This project is a perfect example of why we need the state Legislature to pass a Michigan-first energy policy and keep the momentum going on energy savings and energy waste reduction.”

The incentive payment is tied to construction of the P. Douglas Kindschi Hall of Science and Laker MarketPlace buildings on Grand Valley’s Allendale Campus. The projects involved 194,000 square feet of new construction and the design exceeded required energy standards. Energy saving measures included interior and exterior lighting and controls as well as many items associated with each building’s heating, cooling and ventilation systems.

“We have been an active participant in Consumers’ energy efficiency program since 2009,” said Tim Thimmesch, Grand Valley’s associate vice president for Facilities Services. “As a result, we are avoiding at least $2.2 million annually in energy costs from energy efficiency, conservation and new construction efforts.”

Grand Valley has received more than $700,000 in incentive payments involving more than 100 electric energy efficiency projects since 2009.

Consumers Energy has helped Michigan save more than $855 million through energy efficiency since 2009. Learn more about energy efficiency at www.ConsumersEnergy.com/save, including information on nearly 400 rebates available to businesses.
