Battle Creek Manufacturer Saving Energy and Money with Incentives from Consumers Energy

WASHINGTON, DC – (RealEstateRama) — A packaging manufacturer investing in Michigan with energy-saving equipment is receiving more than $400,000 in incentives from Consumers Energy.

Graphic Packaging International Inc., a global producer of paperboard and folding cartons, received a $416,370 incentive check Wednesday from Consumers Energy executives for their recent improvements, which are saving the company money and energy.

The company rebuilt its No. 2 paper machine, which is saving 7.9 million kilowatt hours of energy a year — enough electricity to power more than 1,000 typical Michigan homes.

Presenting the check was Lisa Gustafson, Consumers Energy’s executive director of business customer care.

“We fulfill our Promise to care for the Michigan communities we serve by helping companies like Graphic Packaging lower and manage their energy bills,” Gustafson said. “This project is a perfect example of why we need the state Legislature to pass a Michigan-first energy policy and keep the momentum going on energy savings and energy waste reduction.”

Mike Farrell, vice president of GPI’s Recycled Mill Division said, “We are very proud of the Battle Creek team. This project was engineered and installed on time, on budget and has performed exceptionally well. We appreciate the support we have received from Consumers Energy.”
