WASHINGTON – (RealEstateRama) — President Obama is on-the-ground in Flint, Michigan, where he’s taking account of the ongoing water crisis that has affected nearly 100,000 residents. This comes more than two years after toxic water began flowing into the homes of Flint residents, with dangerous levels of lead and other chemicals. Despite high-profile coverage, Governor Snyder has yet to commit to fully rebuilding Flint’s pipes and economy, frustrating activists and local residents.

More than 14,000 activists, including Mark Ruffalo, Rosario Dawson, Keith Ellison, and Russell Simmons have signed on urging Governor Snyder to fix what he has broken in Flint — the pipes and the economy.

“Today, President Obama will see that after two years and a lot of outrage, Flint residents are still paying to fix Governor Rick Snyder’s mistakes,” said Vien Truong, Director of Green For All. “It’s not right that Flint residents are the ones shouldering the cost of this disaster. Polluters are the ones that need to pay to rebuild Flint, not families. We urge President Obama to join us in calling on Governor Snyder today to fix Flint once and for all.”

“I’m relieved that President Obama is visiting Flint and shining the light on the disaster that we’re continuing to face. But it’s not just about the water: our economy has been decimated and our housing values have plummeted,” said Melissa Mays, Flint mother and founder of ‘Water You Fighting For.’ “Obama needs to declare Flint a ‘federal disaster’ so that we can get the assistance we need, less relief be cut off at the end of this summer. When President Obama meets with Governor Snyder, I hope he’ll urge him to do more to fix Flint with local labor.”

In March, Green For All led a bus tour with Van Jones, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Steyer and a coalition of Flint activists to draw attention to the continued disaster. Ruffalo and Jones called on President Obama to declare Flint a “federal disaster.”
