Second OSCC Webinar Addresses Precast Concrete Off-Site Construction
WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 1, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — The National Institute of Building Sciences Off-Site Construction Council (OSCC) and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) will co-sponsor the second webinar in OSCC’s new webinar series designed to share knowledge and improve industry efficiency, productivity and speed to market through the use of pre-fabrication and off-site construction. The webinar, “Precast Concrete Off-Site Construction: Techniques & Case Studies,” will be held July 26 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm CT (12:00 pm to 1:00 pm ET) and again July 28 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm CT (12:00 pm to 1:00 pm PT).
OSCC’s 2014 Off-Site Construction Industry Survey found precast concrete structural components to be the most often used elements of off-site construction. With the looming shortage of skilled workers forecast to exceed 2 million by 2017, prefabrication may become a necessity and a more common method of project delivery. The benefits include shorter construction schedules; a greater degree of predictability in cost; reduced material waste; reduced coordination of trades; and reduced risk.
Gilbane Building Company Vice President and Corporate Director of Operational Excellence and Planning Susan (“Sue”) Klawans, who chairs the OSCC, and PCI Northeast Executive Director Rita Seraderian, PE, will provide an overview of the most common systems of precast concrete products; cover basic design criteria and capabilities; and explore case studies showing how precast has been used to solve diverse design and construction challenges with off-site construction.
The presenters serve to increase attendee understanding about precast concrete products and buildings systems by discussing the planning, design, coordination, fabrication and installation process with precast; reviewing mini-case studies illustrating off-site construction concepts; explaining precast specifications, design resources and the PCI plant certification program; and highlighting the importance of resilient building design concepts.
Architects who complete the webinar will be eligible to receive one health, safety and welfare (HSW) learning unit (LU) from the American Institute of Architects. Engineers are eligible to receive one professional development hour (PDH).
