Statement from Diane Yentel, President and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition, on President Trump’s FY18 Budget

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) released statements on Friday, May 19 and on Monday, May 22, noting the cruelty of President Trump’s fiscal year (FY) 2018 budget to millions of low income seniors, people with disabilities, low-wage workers, families with children, veterans, and other vulnerable people who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads.

The release of today’s full budget confirms the devastating blow this budget would land on millions of low income people throughout the country, in a transparent effort to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy and increase defense spending. Slashing federal investments in affordable housing at HUD by 15% or $7.4 billion, belies Secretary Carson’s promise that “nobody’s going to be thrown out on the street” by this budget. Instead, the budget proposal jeopardizes family stability and exacerbates the growing affordable rental housing crisis in every state and community across the nation.
