Architects Release Statement on Tax Reform Proposals

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 31, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The American Institute of Architects (AIA) today issued the following statement following President Obama’s proposal to overhaul the corporate-tax system.

The statement should be attributed to AIA President Mickey Jacob, FAIA:
“We are encouraged that the President and leading members of Congress are discussing the merits of reforming the tax code.

“As more than 90 percent of U.S. architecture firms have less than 50 employees, we are supportive of any legislative effort that both simplifies the tax code and preserves the current tax treatment of small businesses.

“While we support tax reform, however, any reform of the tax code must keep in mind that corporate-only tax reform would leave four out of five architecture firms, who are taxed at the individual rate, at risk for large tax increases.

“That’s why the President and Congress must work to enact comprehensive reform that includes all businesses.

“We look forward to working with the White House and members of Congress to make sure that any tax reform package always takes this principle into account.”
