CAP President and CEO Neera Tanden on Stay of Clean Power Plan

-

Washington, D.C. – February 10, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — In response to the decision announced tonight by the U.S. Supreme Court to temporarily stay the Clean Power Plan pending litigation, Neera Tanden, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:

While the decision by the Supreme Court today was not based on the merits of the Clean Power Plan itself, this action by five conservative justices is yet another example of the ability of this court to make damaging decisions on politically motivated lawsuits. The Clean Power Plan is on solid legal footing and enjoys broad public support as the strongest action ever taken by the United States to address climate change and protect public health.

Many states have already begun taking steps to implement the Clean Power Plan, and they should continue to move forward. Attorneys general who have obstructed their states from acting, such as those in Colorado and Michigan, should remove their states from this lawsuit and help take action to address climate change. We remain confident that the Clean Power Plan will ultimately prevail in the courts and that our country will move forward into a clean energy future.
