City of Rainsville awarded $2.8 million from USDA Rural Development for wastewater system improvements

RAINSVILLE, Alabama – February 17, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — USDA Rural Development Under Secretary Lisa Mensah joined Congressman Robert Aderholt in DeKalb County today to announce $2.8 million in federal funding to the city of Rainsville. USDA Rural Development is awarding an $830,000 grant and a $1,970,000 loan to upgrade the city’s sewer system.

“Safe, modern and reliable wastewater systems are critical for the health and economic vitality of our rural communities,” Mensah said. “They are important economic development tools, in addition to their role in maintaining public health. These USDA investments are vital to rural America.”

USDA’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program funds wastewater and drinking water systems in rural areas through public bodies, non-profit organizations and Federally-recognized Tribes. This program saves taxpayers’ dollars and improves our environment. It also helps promote econommic development by ensuring that manufacturers and businesses in rural areas have access to modern, reliable infrastructure.

Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $4.5 billion through affordable loans, loan guarantees and grants for housing, community facilities, business and infrastructure throughout Alabama.

“This investment in Rainsville is the latest example of the tremendous impact that USDA Rural Development has in the lives of rural businesses, residents and workers every day,” said Ronald Davis, State Director.
