WASHINGTON – December 03, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on today’s groundbreaking for the Centennial Village affordable housing project located in his district at 52nd and Columbia Avenue:

“I am proud to join with the Parkside Association of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), and the entire West Philadelphia community in celebrating the groundbreaking of the Centennial Village apartments today. This project represents a truly successful collaboration between these groups—and many others—who are invested in bringing safe and affordable housing to the Parkside neighborhood.

“This project will be a key driver of growth for a revitalized West Parkside. When the doors to Centennial Village open, 52 units of affordable housing for seniors and special needs individuals will welcome new tenants from the neighborhood, alongside 7,633 square feet for commercial property. It will provide not just space, but community and opportunity for future residents.

“I am proud to have helped bring critical federal funding to this project—including $3.4 million in CDBG funds and $1.3 million in PHFA tax credits—and thank the efforts of the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority for helping to make the additional financing for this project a reality.

“Thank you to Senator Vincent Hughes and Mayor Michael Nutter for representing me at today’s groundbreaking ceremony, and thank you to Lucinda Hudson for your tenacity and drive to bring this project to fruition. I look forward to watching the development’s progress over the coming months and returning soon to open the doors and welcome residents to this transformational project.”
