Energy Secretary Moniz’s Energy Efficiency Legacy Celebrated With Prestigious Award

Lockheed Martin, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Staples, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), View, Inc. and Guy Van Syckle Join Moniz as Winners of the Alliance to Save Energy’s 24thAnnual Star of Energy Efficiency Awards

WASHINGTON – June 28, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — United States Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Ernest Moniz leads an impressive list of energy efficiency leaders who will be honored at the Alliance to Save Energy’s 24th annualEvening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency awards dinner on September 22, 2016 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.

The Star of Energy Efficiency awards celebrate individuals, companies, organizations, government programs and educational institutions that have made notable contributions to advance energy efficiency in their respective fields.

Secretary Moniz will receive the Charles H. Percy Award for Public Service in recognition of his unparalleled record advancing energy efficiency while at DOE, including finalizing an unprecedented number of energy efficiency standards, establishing important public-private partnerships such as Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 and Mission Innovation and evidencing our nation’s leadership as host of the seventh annual Clean Energy Ministerial.

Joining Secretary Moniz is an equally impressive roster of 2016 Star of Energy Efficiency award recipients:

?      Lockheed Martin, receiving the Industry & Manufacturing award for its commitment to comprehensive environmental stewardship and sustainability.

?      Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), being honored with theTransportation award for its 25 years of leadership and large-scale deployment of electric drive vehicles.

?      Staples, being recognized with the Built Environment award for its commitment to energy reduction and efficiency in its stores.

?      Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), receiving the Power Generation & Supply award for its outstanding advancements in providing the Tennessee Valley region with clean electric power.

?      View, Inc., being honored with the Innovative Star of Energy Efficiency award for its commercialization of energy-efficient dynamic glass.

?      Guy Van Syckle, accepting the Rising Star of Energy Efficiency award for his role in developing Hannon Armstrong’s methodology for the measurement, analysis and reporting of the environmental impact of the company’s portfolio of investments.

From developing the first solar-powered charging station on the West Coast to launching an innovative rate program that rewards customers who charge their electric vehicles during off-peak hours, SMUD’s actions and leadership have helped drive the technology forward. Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is being honored with the Transportation awardfor its 25 years of innovative leadership in promoting increased transportation efficiency and improving air quality through the deployment of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, fuel cell electric vehicles and more.

Staples is being honored with the Built Environment award for its commitment to energy reduction and efficiency. Staples’ energy efficiency accomplishments include the Staples Energy Reduction Program, over 600 ENERGY STAR certified Staples buildings, significant reductions in energy intensity and carbon emissions throughout daily operations and the proactive cultivation of an energy-efficient company culture.

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is being recognized with the Power Generation & Supply award for its outstanding advancements in providing the Tennessee Valley region with clean electric power. Energy efficiency has been incorporated into TVA’s energy portfolio over the years, and in 2015 TVA worked with state energy offices, environmental and energy NGOs, researchers, local power companies and customers to model energy efficiency as a dynamically selectable resource.
