HONOLULU – November 9, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Anthony J.H. Ching recently announced that he will retire from the Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA) on Dec. 31, 2015. Mr. Ching has served as the HCDA’s Executive Director since 2007 and retires with more than 30 years in public service with the State of Hawaii.
Previously, Mr. Ching spent six and a half years as the Executive Officer of the State Land Use Commission. He also worked at the Hawaii Department of Health in multiple roles, including the Deputy Director of Health, Environmental Ombudsman and Small Business Advocate, Felix Consent Decree Intra-Departmental Coordinator, Health Care Reform Project Manager, Legislative Coordinator, and Health Planner. In the course of his public service, Mr. Ching also had the opportunity to serve in progressively responsible positions with the State Departments of Land and Natural Resources (State Parks Planner), Planning and Economic Development (State Plans) and with the Office of State Planning (Land Use Planner).
After having successful open heart surgery, Ching stated:
“Having experienced what can only be considered a miraculous recovery from open heart surgery to repair a
leaky mitral valve with the additional complications associated with suffering a stroke on the operating table, I am happy to report that I’m alive and well! I take this fortunate recovery as a sign from our Lord God, that this is the time for me to step away from public service and look for other opportunities to serve our community and home. I’m thankful for the many chances that public service has afforded me to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. While I will be leaving public service, I look forward to finding new career opportunities and remaining active in the community, while spending (in no particular order) more time with family, motorcycles, tennis and travel.”
Mr. Ching is a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii. He and his wife have five children, with the youngest graduating from the Kamehameha Schools in May 2016.
