Investors Unite to Hold Briefing on New Paper by UVA Professor on Misuse of Executive Privilege in Fannie, Freddie Case

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — On Thursday, May 19th at 10:30 EDT, Investors Unite Executive Director Tim Pagliara will host a teleconference featuring law professor Saikrishna Prakash who will discuss his new analysis of the government’s efforts to conceal deliberations related to the Net Worth Sweep.

The government’s historic and broad assertion of varying forms of executive privilege has emerged as a matter nearly as controversial as the Sweep itself. Saikrishna Prakash is the James Monroe Distinguished Professor of Law and Horace W. Goldsmith Research Professor at the University of Virginia School of Law. Prakash, who has previously writtenabout the use of executive privilege in this case, has authored a white paper, The Government’s Seizure of Private Property Behind a Veil of Secrecy, which surveys the legal struggle to bring the government’s decision making process into the light of day and explains why the government’s efforts to keep some 12,000 documents from public view cannot withstand legal scrutiny.

“Transparency is essential for a healthy democracy,” said Pagliara. “Professor Prakash brings great insight into why the government’s assertion of executive privilege is far too broad when it comes to the legal challenges of the Net Worth Sweep and why it should be rejected by judges in this litigation.”
