Kevin Phelan, CRE Receives Highest Award from The Counselors of Real Estate

Chicago – (RealEstateRama) — October 14, 2016—The Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) professional association has named Kevin C. Phelan, CRE, co-chairman of Colliers International, Boston, as the recipient of the 2016 James D. Landauer/John R. White Award–the highest honor conferred by the invitation-only organization.

The award was presented at The Counselors’ annual convention Washington, D.C., recognizing Mr. Phelan’s distinguished leadership in the real estate industry, and his impressive record of supporting a wide array of civic causes. He has been a CRE member since 2004.

Mr. Phalen graduated from Providence College with a Business Administration degree, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Boston College. He joined Meredith & Grew, Boston in 1978; the company was acquired by Colliers in 2007.

In presenting the award, 2016 CRE chair of the board James S. Lee noted Mr. Phelan’s lifetime of service, including his work as the longest-serving board member in the history of Providence College, and chairing the capital campaign which produced its new stadium, school of business and center for the humanities. Mr. Phelan has been actively involved for 41 years with the Boys & Girls Club of Boston, where he has served as a board member, director, president and trustee –and with funding secured from the city and private donations, built the group’s newest facility in Roxbury in 1990.

He has also been heavily involved in Crossroads, an organization that works to close the opportunity and achievement gap facing under-resourced young people, where he is the chair of the board. Ahead of his time (in 1977) Mr. Phelan formed “The Boston Breakfast Club”-– bringing together diverse stakeholders of the city to discuss key issues and events with an impact on Boston and society in general.

The Landauer/White Award is presented annually to an individual who has furthered the ideals of The Counselors of Real Estate®–integrity, competence, community, trust and selflessness–who is viewed by their peers as a recognized leader of real estate with meaningful involvement in causes that change the world.

The award was established in 1986 as a memorial to honor CRE James Landauer for his instrumental role in establishing The Counselors of Real Estate. In 1997, the award was renamed the James D. Landauer/John R. White Award, to honor another high profile professional, John Robert White, who served as a long-term chairman of the Landauer Company as well as President of The Counselors of Real Estate in 1969.

The Counselors of Real Estate®, established in 1953, is an international group of high profile professionals including members of prominent real estate, financial, legal and accounting firms as well as leaders of government and academia who provide expert, objective advice on complex real property situations and land-related matters. Membership is selective, extended by invitation only.
