NAHB Unveils The New American Home 2016

Washington, D.C. – January 19, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Leading Suppliers Council, in collaboration with Professional Builder magazine, today unveiled The New American Home® 2016, the official show home of the International Builders’ Show (IBS). The home can be toured by IBS attendees Jan. 19-21, 2016.

Located in the foothills of Henderson, Nev., The New American Home (TNAH) 2016 boasts 5,200 square feet of contemporary, well-appointed entertaining and living space. The home was designed and built by Element Design Build of Las Vegas, with the help of an experienced team that included landscape architect Sage Design Studios Inc. of Las Vegas, housing technology by Home Innovation Research Labs of Upper Marlboro, Md., and green build consultant Two Trails Inc. of Sarasota, Fla.

“This is the 33rd New American Home that’s been built, and with each one, the quality, design and efficiency is even more impressive than the last,” said NAHB Chairman Tom Woods, a home builder from Blue Springs, Mo. “The New American Home isn’t simply an annual exhibit of new building products. It is built to inspire and encourage innovation throughout the building industry.”

Equally as significant as aesthetics is its performance. TNAH 2016 has achieved Emerald status—the highest of the four levels of green building achievement recognized by the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS). The home features photovoltaic (solar) panels, tankless water heaters, hydronic air handlers, intelligent fireplaces, sustainable building materials and a weather-sensitive irrigation system that automatically adjusts usage according to the immediate climate.

“Building a home of this scale, we’ve incorporated all of the latest in design trends and construction science technology,” said Josh Anderson, owner of Element Design Build. “There are a lot of exciting elements regarding the home’s efficiency that appeal to builders and buyers alike. Many of these performance products are universal and can be used in homes across the country, regardless of the type of home being built.”

Other anticipated certifications for TNAH 2016 include: U.S. DOE Energy Star qualified; U.S. DOE Builders Challenge qualified/Build America Program; U.S. DOE Net Zero Energy Home; U.S. EPA Indoor airPLUS qualified; LEED for Homes–Platinum.

The home was completed in just 10 months—less than half the time it typically requires for projects of similar size and complexity. The project benefited from having a dedicated task force and the support of the NAHB Leading Suppliers Council, whose members provided the showcase products.

All registered attendees of IBS, the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show or the International Window Coverings Expo are eligible to tour TNAH 2016. Complimentary shuttle bus tickets will be distributed at The New American Home booth (C31) located in the Central Concourse of the Las Vegas Convention Center between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19 through Thursday, Jan. 21. Shuttles will depart every 30 minutes from Exhibit Hall C2 beginning at 8:30 a.m., with the last bus departing at 3 p.m. Shuttles departing from the show home to the convention center will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.
