WASHINGTON, DC — (RealEstateRama) — The National Housing Conference (NHC) strongly opposes recent moves by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to issue a proposed rule that would divert limited public housing resources towards evicting undocumented family members from public housing.
“HUD is in the housing business, not the un-housing business. It’s a tremendous distraction of resources when HUD is struggling to maintain its current stock of public housing and already understaffed and underfunded,” said David M. Dworkin, president and CEO of NHC. “The way to create more affordable housing is to build more affordable housing,” said Dworkin, “not create more homeless people.”
