NeighborWorks America Adds to its Virtual Classroom with Course on Structuring Affordable Housing Finance

-

Washington D.C. – August 2, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — NeighborWorks America, the nation’s largest trainer of community development professionals, added “Creative Project Financing for Affordable Housing” to its line-up of NeighborWorks Virtual Classroom courses, continuing recognition that reducing the costs of providing superior education and training in this tight economic climate is essential to strengthening nonprofit housing organizations’ ability to serve their communities.

NeighborWorks America is accepting online registrations now and the course will start September 7, 2011, running through September 28, 2011, including three live, weekly sessions. The course is highly flexible in terms of scheduling online time, but participants can expect to spend 3-4 hours per week reading, working on assignments, and collaborating with their peers through forums, online chat, and live and recorded presentations. The first Virtual Classroom pilot course, “Compliance with State and Federal Regulations for Homeownership Programs,” was launched July 20.

“The virtual classroom combines the positive features of our online course offerings and our in-person instruction that occurs at our training institutes,” said John McCloskey, acting director of Training at NeighborWorks America. “This is an instructor-led course that enables student-teacher interaction as well as student-to-student discussion. We’re excited by the potential of the virtual classroom to deepen our ability to provide superior training opportunities at the lowest cost possible to the community development community.”

The launch of the Creative Project Financing course is especially important today as nonprofit professionals struggle to keep up with changes in the affordable housing financing landscape, while at the same time they battle the need to cut costs. This course makes it possible at a comparatively low cost (with no travel or time away from the office required) to learn about new techniques to finance affordable housing, an essential building block to a strong community.

NeighborWorks America offers 17 online learning courses in addition to the two virtual classroom offerings. Professionals interested in any of the NeighborWorks America course offerings should visit www.nw.org/training.
