WASHINGTON – December 11, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — A better understanding of commercial real estate along with its various investment strategies and benefits is the subject of a new publication from the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

The book, The Investor’s Guide to Commercial Real Estate, written by a team of experts and edited by Everest High Income Property Cofounder and Chief Executive Officer, David Lynn, Ph.D., gives readers an A to Z guide to an increasingly attractive and once misunderstood asset class. The publication takes a deep dive into commercial real estate’s multiple components and investment options, providing investors and advisors with a better understanding of this asset class as well what additional options it can provide to their own portfolio.

As the economy has continued its recovery, there has been a renewed investor interest in commercial real estate. Led by increasing apartment demand, improvements in retail space, and offices moving to downsized urban locations, commercial real estate is outpacing predictions. In addition, having shown that they are well positioned for current market conditions, real estate investment trusts (REITs) have experienced a recent resurgence, helping make them a staple in investor portfolios. As more investors continue to explore commercial real estate, this book serves as an educational reference for the beginner or the experienced investor or advisor.

The book is divided into four easy-to-reference sections, with the first section addressing why real estate is a viable asset class and how to start investing in commercial real estate. The second section examines private equity wealth, paying particular attention to the analysis of potential returns, private equity real estate, property types, and international commercial real estate. Public real estate, including REITs (both listed and nonlisted) and international markets, is discussed in the third section. The fourth section concludes the book with a discussion on advanced real estate topics, including the investment in green real estate, returns, and a detailed analysis of cap rate changes over time.

The Investor’s Guide to Commercial Real Estate is Lynn’s third major publication, having previously coauthored Emerging Market Real Estate Investment and authored Active Private Equity Real Estate Strategy. Prior to Everest, Lynn served as Executive Vice President, Chief Investment Officer and Head of Portfolio Management at Cole Real Estate Investments, Inc. where he was responsible for managing Cole’s five funds, and a Partner and Managing Director at ING Clarion Partners. He has also held senior positions at AIG Global Real Estate, AvalonBay Communities, and the Target Corporation.

The Investor’s Guide to Commercial Real Estate (ISBN 9780874203493) is available through ULI’s online bookstore for $124.95 (The Canadian price is $149.95 and ULI members receive a 25-percent discount; for details, e-mail or call 800-321-5011).
