NEW YORK CARES SEEKS THOUSANDS OF GENEROUS NEW YORKERS TO GRANT 42,000 HOLIDAY GIFT REQUESTS TO HOMELESS AND OTHER STRUGGLING NEIGHBORS IN THE FIVE BOROUGHS

FORM A TEAM AND HELP BRING HOLIDAY CHEER TO DISADVANTAGED NEW YORKERS

New York, NY – November 13, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — New York Cares is seeking thousands of generous New Yorkers to sign up to grant 42,000 Winter Wishes, a program that helps to provide holiday gifts to underprivileged children, teens, and seniors who otherwise might go without. The deadline for volunteers to sign up is Wednesday, November 25, 2015. In order to grant all Winter Wishes, New York Cares is encouraging organizations and groups of friends to claim multiple requests so that all of our neighbors seeking holiday joy receive it.

Each year, New York Cares partners with hundreds of homeless shelters, community centers, and other deserving nonprofit organizations to provide holiday gifts for struggling New Yorkers, many of whom would not otherwise receive gifts during the holidays. To accomplish this, New York Cares collects and screens more than 40,000 gift requests and sends them to volunteers who purchase, wrap, and send the gifts to its partners. The gifts typically cost $40.00 or less and are tax deductible.

“This year we have received 42,000 letters from struggling New Yorkers requesting holiday gifts, which means that there are at least 42,000 individuals who may not be expecting much joy this holiday season,” said Gary Bagley, Executive Director of New York Cares. “Winter Wishes provides people an opportunity to truly transform these winter months for tens of thousands of disadvantaged children, teens, and seniors from homeless shelters and community organizations throughout the five boroughs.”

Until Wednesday, November 25, 2015, individuals and groups can sign up to participate in Winter Wishes. Gifts are due to arrive at partnering agencies the first week of December.
