WASHINGTON, DC – November 4, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — On November 2, the International Code Council (ICC) honored Ron Nickson, Vice President of Building Codes for the National Multi Housing Council/National Apartment Association (NMHC/NAA) Joint Legislative Program, with their 2011 ICC Affiliate Award in recognition of his 30 years of service to the industry.

The award is presented annually to a building industry professional who consistently demonstrates the qualities of integrity, professionalism and dedication through service to the profession, and whose personal standards represent the spirit of public service to the development of codes and standards in the interest of public safety.

Nickson was also cited for his tireless support of the Bob Fowler Motorcycle Ride, an ICC-sponsored charity fundraiser named after the man who had the vision to bring the three regional code groups together to create the ICC. Funds raised in the ride support scholarships to help local code officials attend code development hearings. This year the program supported 94 scholarship recipients.

The National Multi Housing Council (NMHC) and National Apartment Association (NAA) operate a Joint Legislative Program and represent the nation’s leading firms participating in the multifamily rental housing industry. NMHC/NAA’s combined memberships are engaged in all aspects of the development and operation of apartment communities, including ownership, construction, finance and management. One-third of Americans rent their housing, and over 14 percent of all U.S. households live in an apartment home.
