WASHINGTON, D.C. – January 16, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — The National Multi Housing Council (NMHC) and the National Apartment Association (NAA) will continue to operate their Joint Legislative Program for another five years under a recently announced agreement. The unique program represents the industry at the federal, state and local levels.

“The continuation of a two-decade partnership between NAA and NMHC ensures that the apartment industry speaks with a single, powerful voice. Access to one of the best legislative and regulatory staffs working on Capitol Hill via NMHC provides the perfect complement to the state and local efforts of our NAA team,170 local affiliates and nearly 60,000 members across the country,” said NAA President Douglas S. Culkin, CAE.

“This relationship brings together the strengths of both organizations to advance rental housing,” said NMHC President Doug Bibby. “It really is unique in the association world. In most industries where multiple associations represent the sector, they compete. Instead, our industry showed great vision to act collectively as partners to support rental housing.”

“With the fiscal cliff, tax reform debate and delicate economic recovery, it’s more important than ever for our industry to unify in the face of critical upcoming policy decisions,” said NMHC Chairman Thomas S. Bozzuto, The Bozzuto Group. “Our partnership ensures that we’re part of the debate on these and other crucial issues over the next five years.”

“We look forward to working together to tell the good story of the apartment industry to policymakers nationwide,” said NAA Chairman of the Board Alexandra Jackiw, CPM, CAPS. “One in three Americans rent, and 17 million of those households are building their lives in an apartment. We need a balanced housing policy to ensure that our industry can meet the growing demand for rental housing.”
