WASHINGTON, D.C. — (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today presented the Charles Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award to Fort Chaplin Park Apartments, owned and operated by Standard Communities and Alliant Capital, for their work preserving affordable housing in the District of Columbia. The award is determined by the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC) through a highly competitive, national selection process. AHTCC is a nationwide group of businesses and organizations involved in financing and developing affordable housing using the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. Residents were engaged to inform the development of the property and the design of the community programming and resident services

“I want to congratulate Fort Chaplin Park Apartments for your work preserving low-income, affordable housing for residents in the District of Columbia,” Norton said. “Prior to Alliant Captial’s investment, only 70 percent of Fort Chaplin Park homes were affordable, but now 100 percent—all 549 homes—are affordable to low-income residents. In addition to new, low-income apartments, Fort Chaplin Park has added a new 5,000 square foot Community Center that now hosts educational, job training, and health and wellness programming. This investment in our community directly contributes to the District’s goal of increasing affordable housing options for our residents.”
