CHICAGO – February 10, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Administrator Denise Turner Roth announced plans for major repair and alteration projects outlined in President Obama’s fiscal year 2017 budget request. The proposed budget focuses on tackling our region’s greatest challenges by improving and strengthening existing federal infrastructure in metropolitan communities. This request will allow for safer, modernized buildings that optimize existing space and encourage continued development.
GSA Administrator Denise Turner Roth said the President’s budget encourages GSA’s mission to strengthen and develop existing federal infrastructure:

President Obama’s budget proposal shows clear support for those efforts. This funding allows us to meet building requirements, benefiting the agencies within our space and American taxpayers by reinforcing our cost efficiency and commitment to sustainable property. Through Congress’ approval of the 2017 budget proposal, we can look forward to the peace of mind afforded by safe and reliable federal buildings and ongoing support for GSA’s mission to become an Economic Catalyst.”
The proposed investments to support infrastructure within GSA’s Region 5 include:
$81.3 million for a repair and alteration project to renovate 985 Michigan Avenue in Detroit to extend service life, improve operational efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and consolidate federal agencies into the facility.
$10.72 million for a repair and alteration project to undertake critical structural and related system upgrades of the Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building Garage in Detroit.
$10.78 million for a repair and alteration project, undertaking structural and related system upgrades of the parking garage at the Minton-Capehart Federal Building in Indianapolis.
$15.52 million for a repair and alteration project to complete, repair, and expand the plaza system at the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Courthouse in Cleveland.
