Realtor® Adorna Carroll Honored with NAR Distinguished Service Award

Anaheim, CA – November 14, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Adorna Carroll, a Realtor® from Berlin, Conn., has received the National Association of Realtors® 2011 Distinguished Service Award. Out of 1.1 million Realtors®, no more than two are recognized with this award each year. The recipients were announced in Anaheim, Calif., during NAR’s annual Realtors® Conference & Expo.

NAR established the DSA in 1979 to honor Realtors® who have made outstanding contributions to the real estate industry and are recognized as leaders in their local communities. The award is considered the highest honor an NAR member can receive; recipients must be active at the local, state and national association levels, but must not have served as NAR president. NAR President Ron Phipps presented the award to Carroll.

“Adorna is truly deserving of the Distinguished Service Award,” said Phipps, broker-president of Phipps Realty in Warwick, R.I. “Her passion and commitment to educating and training real estate professionals is truly remarkable. Through her hard work with Realtors® and associations across the globe, Adorna has striven to put others before herself, while making a difference in the real estate industry.”

Carroll has been a Realtor® for 26 years and simultaneously runs four businesses that require her to travel around the world more than 42 weeks a year. In addition, Carroll is also an on-call consultant for Realtor® associations across the country, assisting with special projects, business issues and various taskforces as needed.

“I am deeply honored to accept the Distinguished Service Award,” said Carroll. “I have always believed in the value Realtors® bring to the real estate profession and our commitment to serving others. I’m so proud to be part of an industry and organization that works toward improving people’s quality of life through homeownership.”

Carroll has served in a number of positions within the Realtor® organization. She served as an NAR Regional Vice President for Region 1 in 2001. In 2005 Carroll was appointed Vice President & Liaison to Committees and in 2006 she served as Political Fundraising Chair for RPAC where she helped implement the first-ever business plan for political fundraising, exceeding the year’s fundraising goal by more than $1.2 million. Throughout the years Carroll also served as an NAR committee liaison for a number of committees including leadership groups, Real Estate Services and the Education, Information and Communication groups.

In addition to her NAR duties, Carroll has also been active in her local and state Realtor® associations. She served as president for the Greater New Britain Association of Realtors® in 1990, 1993 and 1996. Carroll was also president of the Connecticut Association of Realtors® in 1997. Carroll has been an influential figure on the state level lobbying for real estate legislation. In 1995 she helped formulate recommendations for legislation to revamp Connecticut’s agency laws and require all agents, including buyer agents who represent clients, to have written agreement. The legislation was passed unanimously by the Connecticut House and Senate and is now used by NAR as a model approach for other states.

In 1985 Carroll opened her real estate firm, and through thoughtful mergers and acquisitions is now one of the owners of Realty Three Inc., a large independent multi-office firm with approximately 100 agents. In 2004 Carroll and two partners established SRS Council, LLP, a designation council that confers the Seller Representative Specialist designation. Carroll developed the course material for the designation, which helps bring balance to the skill set of Realtors® who represent sellers.

In addition to her real estate firm and designation council, Carroll also owns Dynamic Directions Inc., an educational and sales training consulting firm. Carroll has authored more than 27 continuing education courses, trained local and state leadership in 47 states, and assisted in leadership mediation and strategic planning for MLSs, local and state Realtor® associations and NAR. Every year Carroll also provides pro-bono training and consulting to a local Realtor® association that cannot afford to hire a trainer.

Beginning in 2008 Carroll worked to open the Accredited Buyer’s Representative® designation course and Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council electives to the Canadian market. She helped establish sound field practices for buyer representation, helped rewrite the course material and trained the trainers. Currently, Carroll has introduced and facilitated REBAC’s ABR® designation throughout the Canadian provinces including Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

Carroll has also been married to her husband, Jack, for more than 27 years and has three children, two of whom are Realtors® and work alongside her.

The National Association of Realtors®, “The Voice for Real Estate,” is America’s largest trade association, representing 1.1 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
