RE/MAX Awarded Prestigious LEED® Green Building Certification

-

DENVER, CO – June 25, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — RE/MAX, LLC, the global franchise company with its headquarters office in Denver, CO, recently joined an exclusive group of projects in Colorado that are LEED® Certified, a prominent program that accepts only the most environmentally-friendly buildings and projects.

To become LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified, the company’s 14-story building underwent a rigorous program of verifying the buildings sustainability and efficiencies. RE/MAX Co-Founder, Gail Liniger, accepted recognition for the certification during a ceremony at the building which also has an Energy Star rating of 100.

“RE/MAX has made a commitment to premier community citizenship in every practice and principle of our business,” said Bruce Benham, Senior Vice President, Office of the Chairman for RE/MAX, LLC. “Attaining this certification was no small feat but it’s important to us and our community. We encourage our RE/MAX agents and offices to take conservation and sustainability seriously and it’s up to us to lead by example.”

RE/MAX joined 61 other Colorado projects certified under the Existing Building rating system and 322 total LEED projects in the state. Over 100,000 projects in 120 countries are currently participating in the LEED rating systems, the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

The beautiful headquarters building in the Denver Technology Center was built in 2006 with sustainability and environmental stewardship in mind, but it was not built LEED-certified. RE/MAX achieved LEED certification for energy, lighting, water and material use as well as other sustainable strategies.

“The green building movement offers an unprecedented opportunity to respond to the most-important challenges of our time, including global climate change, dependence on non-sustainable and expensive sources of energy and threats to human health,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The work of innovative building projects such as RE/MAX World Headquarters is a fundamental driving force in the green building movement.”

RE/MAX also has a Green program for agents that helps them establish themselves as RE/MAX Green Specialists, knowledgeable about the energy-efficiencies of home. According to a USA Today article published today, green homes are expected to grow from 17% of the U.S. residential market in 2011 to 29% and to 38% by 2016, citing a 2012 McGraw Hill Construction study.
