Secaucus City Council Calls On Major Building Owner, Joins Workers’ March
Secaucus office cleaners fired by contractor charged with breaking the law
Secaucus, NJ – March 10, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Today at 4pm the Mayor of Secaucus and members of city council will rally with displaced workers of one of the town’s premier office buildings and will pass a resolution calling on the building owner to use responsible contractors that will respect workers’ rights.
After 21 years of service, nine office cleaners at 300 Lighting Way were let go from their jobs when the new building owner Rugby Realty hired an irresponsible non-union cleaning contractor, Eastern Essential Services, that refused to hire the union workers, and slashed wages and benefits. After months of intensive investigation, Eastern Essential Services has been charged and brought to trial for breaking the law by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for refusing to hire the workers on the basis of their union affiliation.
