Manistee River access remains on north side of Tippy Dam

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Consumers Energy is replacing the wood stairs at the South Tail Water at Tippy Dam, and the site will be temporarily closed while the work is performed from June 15 to 30.

“The stair replacement project will improve the safety for anglers and others to reach the Manistee River from the south side of the waterway,” said Rich Castle, Consumers Energy’s natural resource administrator for hydro operations.

While this work is being done, recreationalists will still be able to access the river by Tippy Dam at the Tippy State Recreation Area on the river’s north side, as well as downstream at Tunk Hole on U.S. Forest Service property. Signs will clearly mark that the site is closed during construction.

Castle reminds visitors to safely and quickly exit the river if they hear the sirens that signal dangerous changes to flow conditions at hydro facilities.
