Thousands of neighbors and volunteers help build stronger communities
NeighborWorks America launches 32nd annual NeighborWorks Week
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 2, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — On June 6-14, NeighborWorks America and its network of local organizations kicks off the 32nd annual NeighborWorks Week, a weeklong celebration in which thousands of volunteers come together to help make their communities healthy, sustainable places. Nearly 200 affordable housing and community development organizations are holding events across the country, that range from rehabbing and repairing homes, beautifying parks, conducting neighborhood tours, recognizing successful partnerships, and hosting events that educate and train others. “Celebrating Community” is this year’s NeighborWorks Week theme.
For example, in:
- Detroit, MI: Southwest Solutions is holding a National Beautification Day where staff and volunteers will clean up 10-12 separate sites in Detroit.
- San Luis Obispo, CA: Children in People’s Self-Help Housing Corporation’s after- school program are bringing meals to share with seniors in an intergenerational meal and celebration. The children will also bring a gift for each senior, a small wooden house that they have painted.
- Silver Spring, MD: Montgomery Housing Partnership is holding a ribbon cutting and open house for a formerly abandoned and foreclosed property.
- Burlington, VT: Champlain Housing Trust is hosting day of activities at a Shelburne housing project to celebrate community with residents living in the development.
- Cleveland, OH: Famicos Foundation/Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland are building an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant garden for a 45-unit building where senior and disabled low-income residents live.
- Greenville, MS: HOPE Community Corporation is hosting a fair designed to help residents learn about financial education in a low-wealth community.
- Charlotte, NC: Charlotte Mecklenburg Housing Partnership is hosting an event that engages traditionally underserved communities and will involve more than 13 partners including the local police department, parks and recreation staff and schools.
