Woodstock Institute welcomes Spencer Cowan as new Vice President of Applied Research

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 17, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Woodstock Institute and its Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Spencer Cowan will join Woodstock in December 2011 as Vice President of Applied Research.

“Spencer has an exceptional body of work and a strong grounding in the public policy issues at the intersection of housing and community economic development,” said Dory Rand, President of Woodstock Institute.

As Vice President of Applied Research, Spencer will lead Woodstock Institute’s applied research for economic security program. Prior to joining Woodstock, Spencer served as Senior Research Associate at the Center for Urban and Regional Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Spencer’s work has included projects examining the impact of state laws promoting affordable housing in affluent suburbs, efforts to bring the middle class back to inner-city neighborhoods, the impact of regulation on the cost of new housing development, a program to securitize non-conforming mortgages, and the effectiveness of community-based mortgage foreclosure prevention programs.

Spencer received a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.A. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Florida, a J.D. from Boston University School of Law and an A.B. in Political Science from Columbia University.
