NAHB to Honor Educators of the Year at 2014 International Builders’ Show

WASHINGTON, D.C. – January 28, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — The National Association of Home Builders will present its annual Educator of the Year awards to individuals who have excelled in teaching NAHB education courses to builders, remodelers and other industry professionals.

“The Educator the Year honorees are being recognized for their dedication and longstanding commitment to elevating the home building industry through education,” said Erik Anderson, CAPS, CGB, CGR, GMB, chairman of the NAHB Education Committee and a remodeler from Winston-Salem, N.C. “By sharing their expertise as instructors and serving as mentors, they are giving builders, remodelers and others the knowledge to better serve the needs of their clients, delivering the latest information and training available.”

The following educators will be honored:

• Builder/Remodeler Educator of the Year: Bill Asdal, CGP, CGR, GMB, owner of Asdal Builders, LLC, Chester, N.J.
• Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) Educator of the Year: Mary Jo Peterson, CAPS, president of Mary Jo Peterson, Inc., Brookfield, Conn.
• Green Building Educator of the Year: Peter V. Young, CAPS, CGP, CSP, president of Pemar Properties, LLC, Metairie, La.
• Sales and Marketing/Institute of Residential Marketing Educator of the Year: Jerry Costanzo, CMP, CSP, Master CSP, MIRM, president of G.L. Costanzo & Associates, Inc., Castle Rock, Colo.

NAHB offers more than 40 educational courses and 13 professional designations geared to the specific needs of builders, remodelers and other industry professionals. The courses focus on practical training for both newcomers and veterans, with ideas and strategies that can be applied for everyday use in the student’s respective field of business. In order to become an instructor, individuals are approved based on their background, years of industry experience and knowledge. They also must have earned the relevant NAHB designation for the courses they plan to teach.

“NAHB’s Educators of the Year do more than teach the course material. They inspire their students by incorporating their personal experiences in the classroom and providing them with new tools to be successful,” Anderson said. “They also motivate them to reach the next stage of their careers by encouraging them to earn an NAHB designation and act as a resource if they need advice in the future.”

The Educators of the Year will be recognized on Feb. 2 at the Designation Achievement Reception prior to the 2014 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. IBS is the largest light construction exposition in the world and is expected to play host to 50,000 home builders, remodelers, developers, architects and suppliers to the home building industry. The show takes place Feb. 4-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. For additional information and to register, visit buildersshow.com.
