NATIVE PLANT ENTHUSIASTS INVITED TO ANNUAL ARBOR DAY PLANT SALE ON KAUA‘I

LIHU‘E – November 3, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The public is invited to an Arbor Day plant sale on November 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife baseyard and nursery at 4398-D Pua Loke St. (follow the palm trees past the Dept. of Water and Dept. of Agriculture offices).

Featured plants include listed “endangered” endemic plants of Kaua‘i. This means the plant is found only on Kaua‘i and is being offered for sale under the new rules governing “endangered species” in Hawai‘i. All of these plants come from special nursery grown, not wild-collected stock. A numbered tag will accompany each “T&E” (threatened and endangered) plant being sold to authenticate the species. Plants for sale include:

Aloalo (Hibiscus clayi), Kou (Cordia subcordata), Kukui (Aleurites moluccana), Ma‘o (Gossypium tomentosum), ‘Uki‘uki (Dianella sandwicensis).

Other Hawaiian plants offered include: Koki‘o ke‘oke‘o (Hibiscus waimeae), ‘A‘ali‘i (Dodonaea viscosa), Ko‘oko‘olau (Bidens sp.), and ‘Akia (Wikstroemia oahuense).

Ornamental varieties include: Pua Kenikeni (Fagraea berteriana).

PRICES: $2.00 to $7.00 per plant depending on species and pot size. (Correct change please)
