Community, Development Firm of the Year Named in the 2017 NAHB Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards

WASHINGTON – (RealEstateRama) — The Rey in San Diego was named Multifamily Community of the Year and Dominium Development & Acquisitions, based in Plymouth, Minn., was named Multifamily Development Firm of the Year for 2017 by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) as part of the association’s Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards.

Set in a historic downtown neighborhood, The Rey is a 22-story high rise of 478 flats featuring floor to ceiling windows, clean lines and an industrial aesthetic. Public areas finished in a palette of cool grays, blues and greens evoke nearby beaches. A sprawling rooftop deck with green space, swimming pool and a fire pit lounge area provides an outdoor oasis with sweeping city skyline views.

“The Rey combines modern aesthetics and a connection to San Diego’s remarkable outdoors and cultural offerings to create an appealing high-end living experience,” said Steven E. Lawson, president of The Lawson Companies in Virginia Beach, Va., and vice chairman of NAHB’s Multifamily Council. “It truly succeeds in its aim to be an urban sanctuary.”

Dominium Development & Acquisitions is one of the nation’s largest and most innovative affordable-housing development and management companies, with more than 27,000 apartment units across the nation. Recent apartment communities such as the 2016 Pillars Multifamily Community of the Year winner A-Mill Artist Lofts and 2017 Best Affordable Apartment Community (100+ Units) Arcade Apartments, have not only given new life to vacant and underutilized historic structures, but take the design a step further by incorporating green building techniques.

“Dominium prides itself on creating value for residents, financial and community stakeholders and company employees,” said Lawson. “This results in places that people are glad to call home, contributes to solid partnerships and community vitality, and creates an engaging place to work.”

A panel of multifamily development and design experts also selected winners in categories from excellence in building and marketing to individual and corporate achievement. Winners from all categories were recognized at a ceremony held today during the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla. To see a complete list of winners, visit: www.nahb.org/pillarsawards.
