WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 27, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Pedestrian-friendly units, unique amenities and the integration of buildings into their communities were some of the trademarks found in this year’s finalists for the 2015 Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards, which honor superior achievement in apartment and condominium development, design, marketing and management and are sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
“This year’s finalists reflect creative and forward-thinking approaches to every component of the multifamily housing industry,” said W. Dean Henry, CEO of Legacy Partners Residential in Foster City, Calif., and chairman of NAHB’s Multifamily Leadership Board. “Consumers have such great apartment and condo communities to choose from in today’s market, and the Pillars awards highlight some of best of these communities.”
The industry experts who judged the competition found that many of the finalists seamlessly integrated the multifamily units into their communities, whether it’s a college dorm that incorporates modern design to complement its evolving campus or a downtown apartment building that plays off the local art scene. The use of color and multiple textures on building exteriors also were important factors for the judges when scoring the entries.
The judges also noted that many of the finalists found different ways to make their units pedestrian-friendly, with easy access to retail locations and public transportation. Many finalists also put a focus on unique amenities for their residents, such as private pet grooming salons, professionally managed salons offering the latest trend of hair blowouts, electric car charging stations and clubrooms complete with a chef’s-style kitchen, to name a few.
A panel of 12 multifamily development and design experts selected 72 finalists in 30 categories ranging from excellence in building and marketing to individual and corporate achievement.
