Urban Land Institute Opens New Global Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON – RealEstateRama – The Urban Land Institute (ULI) announced today the opening of its new global headquarters at 2101 L Street NW, Washington, D.C. The new space reflects ULI’s continued commitment to sustainability, evolving workplace strategy, and fostering greater connection across its global network of members and staff.
The 26,000-square-foot headquarters replaces the former location nearby in downtown Washington, D.C. It supports collaboration with members and partners worldwide through technology-enabled spaces, conference rooms, and meeting areas designed for gatherings of all sizes.
The headquarters building is also equipped with bike storage, EV charging stations, shared conference facilities, a fitness center, and a rooftop terrace. The property is Fitwel Viral Response Certified, uses green cleaning practices, and tracks building-wide energy and water use through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, reinforcing ULI’s commitment to sustainability and resilient, high-performing workplaces.
“The new headquarters was designed to bring teams together, strengthen our culture, and advance our mission to shape the future of cities and communities,” said Angela Cain, ULI Global CEO. “The design reflects ULI’s nearly 90-year history, the impact our members and donors have had on communities worldwide, and our commitment to sustainability. We’re also proud to be part of a vibrant downtown community and to contribute to the energy and vitality of a strong urban core that is central to the work we do every day.”
The design was informed by extensive employee feedback gathered through surveys and cross-functional working groups. ULI staff emphasized the importance of natural light, accessibility, and a balance of shared and focused work areas. The move was completed on May 12, 2026.
The office was designed by the global architecture firm Gensler, with Cushman & Wakefield serving as the tenant representative, workplace strategist, and project manager on behalf of ULI. JBG Smith is the property management company for the building.
As part of this transition, ULI Washington has relocated to a separate office in the NoMa/Union Market district, expanding the organization’s presence across the city and creating closer proximity to local members, partners, and programming opportunities.
