Leaders in Sustainable Infrastructure and Corporate Strategy & Development are Newest Directors to Join the Alliance’s Board


WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 18, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — The Alliance to Save Energy added expertise in sustainable infrastructure investment and continued leadership from the building efficiency solutions sector with the election of Jeffrey Eckel, President and CEO of Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure (NYSE: HASI) and Kevin Self, Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Development at Johnson Controls to the Board of Directors.

Serving as President & CEO, as well as the Chairman of the Board, Eckel leads Hannon Armstrong’s work in making debt and equity investments in sustainable infrastructure projects, which focus on providing cleaner energy and increasing energy efficiency. Mr. Eckel has long dedicated himself to energy efficiency and has over 30 years of experience in financing infrastructure investments. In 2011, he was appointed the chairman of the Maryland Clean Energy Center, Maryland’s “Green Bank”, and as a member of the Johns Hopkins Environmental, Energy, Sustainability and Health Institute’s advisory council in 2013. Previously, Mr. Eckel held senior executive positions at EnergyWorks, LLC, and Wärtsilä Power Development.

Noting his familiarity with the organization, Mr. Eckel said, “I have worked with the Alliance through various avenues over the years and I am pleased to join the organization in this official capacity. I look forward to the opportunities ahead to advocate for a more productive energy future with the Alliance.”

Joining Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company with established core businesses in the buildings, automotive and energy storage industries, as the Vice President of Corporate Development in 2010 Kevin Self took on his current position two years ago. He leads global strategy development for the $14.6 billion Building Efficiency business, which includes leading open innovation efforts with external parties and assuring Johnson Controls’ business portfolio and technology developments align with Johnson Controls’ strategy. Formerly, Mr. Self led the integration of MillerCoors, and also directed corporate strategy for Miller Brewing Company. Mr. Self has also held leadership positions at GE Healthcare, McKinsey & Co. and Baxter Healthcare Corporation.
