WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 27, 2018) – (RealEstateRama) — The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) today announced that a record number of individual employees from MBA member companies were awarded a Path to Diversity (P2D) scholarship during the 2018 fiscal year, ending September 30. The scholarships are granted to existing industry professionals from diverse backgrounds who are seeking to advance their careers through training in MBA Education programs and courses.
“This year’s P2D scholarship winners should be recognized as future leaders of the real estate finance industry’s increasingly diverse and inclusive workforce,” said Bob Broeksmit, President and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association. “MBA Education programs and courses help industry professionals expand their skills and abilities, and the generous donations from RIHA and MBA member companies allow the P2D program to provide even more professionals the opportunity to receive results-oriented training to advance in their careers.”
A record 149 P2D scholarships were given to individuals from 74 member companies this year – up from 111 scholarships in 2017. P2D scholarships are awarded to qualified individuals who are part of one or more of the following under-represented groups: non-white or bi-racial; lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender; and female.
The scholarships were funded primarily by donations from the Research Institute for Housing America (RIHA). MBA also received donations from: CBRE, Quicken Loans, CMG Financial, SunTrust Mortgage, VantageScore Solutions, Ballard Spahr LLP, and Cultural Outreach Solutions.
P2D scholarship awardees receive a voucher to cover course registration fees, up to a maximum of $2,000, for MBA Education programs and courses. To be eligible for the P2D scholarship, individuals must be currently employed by an MBA member firm or state MBA member firm, and have two years of experience in the mortgage industry, or some equivalent in real estate finance experience or training.
Applications are evaluated based on a personal statement and a letter of recommendation, with bonus points awarded to applicants who are U.S. military veterans or disabled. Individuals are eligible to receive up to three awards during their careers, with no more than one award provided per calendar year.
