MBA Opens Doors Foundation Surpasses Milestone of Helping 5,000 Families

WASHINGTON, D.C. – RealEstateRama – The MBA Opens Doors Foundation (Opens Doors) today announced that it has helped more than 5,000 families with mortgage and rental assistance since the launch of the Foundation’s Home Grant Program in 2012. Opens Doors provides mortgage and rental assistance to families with critically ill or injured children, allowing parents and guardians to be by a child’s side during treatment without fear of jeopardizing their home.

“I am deeply gratified by the work Opens Doors does to keep families with critically ill children in their homes,” said Debra W. Still, CMB, President and CEO of Pulte Mortgage, and Opens Doors Foundation Chairman. “While I never thought I would be sharing such celebratory news in the midst of a pandemic, I can’t think of a more important time to be helping the families that need us.”

Founded in 2011, Opens Doors has helped families from 49 states, Guam, and the District of Columbia, and has granted over $7.2 million in housing assistance. Since first partnering with Children’s National Medical System in Washington, D.C., in 2012, Opens Doors has expanded its hospital network to 12 children’s hospitals across the country. The Foundation works with social workers at each of its network hospitals to identify families most in need of housing assistance.

“It is humbling to reach such a significant milestone – one that would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the real estate finance industry,” said Opens Doors President Deborah Dubois. “Even now, during these incredibly trying times, MBA member donors are stepping up their donations, knowing that the hardest hit will be families least able to weather the storm.”

The Opens Doors Foundation, through its Home Grant Program, provides relief to families with critically ill children with housing assistance grants of up to $2,500 a month. In a short period of time, the Home Grant Program has become a critical part of a family’s support structure, especially when a parent or guardian must take unpaid leave to be with a child.
