MBA Releases 2022 Rankings of Commercial/Multifamily Mortgage Firms’ Origination Volumes

WASHINGTON, D.C. – RealEstateRama – According to a set of commercial/multifamily real estate finance league tables prepared by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), the following firms were the top commercial/multifamily mortgage originators in 2022:

  • JLL
  • CBRE
  • Meridian Capital Group
  • JP Morgan Chase & Company
  • Eastdil Secured
  • Wells Fargo
  • KeyBank
  • Newmark
  • Walker & Dunlop
  • PNC Real Estate

MBA’s Commercial Real Estate/Multifamily Finance Firms – Annual Origination Volumes report is the only one of its kind to present a comprehensive set of listings of 148 different commercial/multifamily mortgage originators, their 2022 volumes, and the different roles they play. The report presents origination volumes in more than 140 categories, including by role, by investor group, by property type, by financing structure type, and by the location of the originating office.

By dollar volume, the top five originators for third parties in 2022 were:

  • JLL
  • CBRE
  • Meridian Capital Group
  • Eastdil Secured
  • Newmark

The top five lenders in 2022 were:

  • Wells Fargo
  • JP Morgan Chase & Company
  • Bank of America
  • KeyBank
  • PNC Real Estate

Seven different companies were at the top of the eight lists reporting total originations by investor groups:

  • Citigroup Global Markets, JP Morgan Chase & Company, Eastdil Secured, Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo were the top originators for commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS)
  • PNC Real Estate, JP Morgan Chase & Company, KeyBank, Wells Fargo, and Meridian Capital Group were the top originators for depositories
  • JLL, CBRE, American International Group/Corebridge Financial, Northwestern Mutual, and KKR were the top originators for life insurance companies
  • Walker & Dunlop, Berkadia, CBRE, Wells Fargo, and Greystone were the top originators for Fannie Mae
  • Berkadia, CBRE, Walker & Dunlop, JLL, and Capital One Financial Corp. were the top originators for Freddie Mac
  • Lument, Greystone, Berkadia, Dwight Capital LLC, and Walker & Dunlop were the top originators for FHA/Ginnie Mae
  • JLL, CBRE, Eastdil Secured, Newmark, and MetLife Investment Management for investor-driven lenders
  • Nuveen Real Estate, Q10 Capital LLC, Principal Real Estate Investors, Barings, and George Smith Partners were the top originators for pension funds
  • Walker & Dunlop, Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc., Newmark, Northmarq, and Meridian Capital Group were the top originators for the “other investors” category
