Associated Builders and Contractors to Host Forum for Industrial Project Delivery Best Practices Oct. 22-23

Washington, D.C. – September 18, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today announced it will host its first Industrial Users Summit, Oct. 22-23, at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas. The event will bring together industrial construction users and merit shop contractors to discuss common issues that affect the way projects are planned and delivered.

“The Industrial User’s Summit is ABC’s answer to educating our nation’s industrial sector on the value of merit shop construction,” said Kevin Sell, vice president of Cincinnati-based United Group Services, Inc. and chairman of the Industrial Users Summit Steering Committee.

“This forum provides a professional, yet relaxed, environment to demonstrate how we operate, execute a contract and utilize best practices.”

The Industrial Users Summit will include discussions, best practices and presentations on quality, safety and workforce development. In addition, Construction Concepts founder Mike Casten will provide a unique, thought-provoking perspective on whether the projected skilled labor shortage exists or whether management and construction planning systems fail to maximize productivity.

“ABC’s goal in hosting this event is to give merit shop contractors an opportunity to understand what owners need from them in order to deliver more value during the planning and execution of projects,” said Joe Clements, director of Power Generation Commercial Operations for LG&E & KU Services, Louisville, Ky. “We know safety, workforce training and quality are issues that are common to both sides. The Industrial Users Summit is a chance to dig down and find solutions—or share existing solutions—to these common issues.”

Attendance is limited to 125 participants, including a select mix of industrial user chief executives and senior managers, ABC industrial contractor and subcontractor members, and industry supporters who will serve as event sponsors.

The Industrial Users Summit Steering Committee includes: Kevin Sell, committee chair, vice president, United Group Services; Mike Bellaman, president and CEO, Associated Builders and Contractors; Greg Hoberock, president, hth companies, inc; William J. Clouatre, vice president of corporate business development, Cajun Industries, LLC; Joe Clements, director of Power Generation Commercial Operations, LG&E and KU Services Company; Joseph E. Harrison, strategic supply manager, Engineering & Construction Services, Dow Corning Corporation – Global Procurement; and Joe Davis, director, EHS, GE Aviation, U.S.
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national trade association representing 22,000 members from more than 19,000 construction and industry-related firms. Founded on the merit shop philosophy, ABC and its 72 chapters help members develop people, win work and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitably for the betterment of the communities in which they work.
