NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – RealEstateRama – To highlight Deaf Awareness Month in September, the New Hanover County Office of Civic Engagement has partnered with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office to host a special community event titled, “Law Enforcement and Me”.
The session will take place on Thursday, September 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the New Hanover County Government Center (230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington).

- Effective communication strategies between law enforcement and individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Legal protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Practical methods for handling various scenarios, including routine traffic stops and other interactions with law enforcement, while ensuring rights are respected
As part of the event, ASL interpreters, captioning services, and a light meal will be provided.
