WASHINGTON, D.C. - August 8, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- In accordance with the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, HUD published a Notice in the Aug 2, 2013, Federal Register identifying Federal buildings and other real property HUD has reviewed for suitability for use to assist the homeless. The properties were reviewed using information provided to HUD by Federal landholding agencies or by GSA regarding their inventories of excess or surplus property. The list includes buildings and properties in Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Montana, and New York.
DOL Awards $5 Million in Grants to Help 1,900 Homeless Female Veterans and Veterans...
WASHINGTON, D.C. - August 6, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- The Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL-VETS) today announced the award of 22 grants, totaling more than $5 million, to provide about 1,900 homeless female veterans and veterans with families with job training to help them succeed in civilian careers. The grants are being awarded under the department’s Homeless Female Veterans and Veterans with Families Program.

Gwen Moore (D-WI) and Mark Pocan (D-WI) introduced the Runaway and Homeless Youth Inclusion Act, which would prohibit federal programs serving runaway and homeless youth from discriminating against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, or LGBT, homeless young people. If signed into law, the bill would also promote data-collection processes to help policymakers better understand LGBT youth homelessness. HUD PROVIDES FUNDS FOR OVER 450 NEW LOCAL HOMELESS PROGRAMS ACROSS THE U.S.
WASHINGTON, Dc - August 1, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan today announced a third round of grants for more than 250 homeless housing and service programs across the U.S., as well as nearly 200 grants to assist with local strategic planning activities provided through HUD’s Continuum of Care Program. This year, HUD challenged local communities to reexamine their response to homelessness and give greater weight to proven strategies, from providing ‘rapid re-housing’ for homeless families to permanent supportive housing for those experiencing chronic homelessness (see attached chart).

Senators Craft Bipartisan FHA Reform Bill

VA Announces $300 Million in New Grants to Help End Veterans’ Homelessness
WASHINGTON, DC - July 11, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced today the award of nearly $300 million in grants that will help approximately 120,000 homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families. The grants have been awarded to 319 community agencies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - May 23, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- The Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing Act of 2009 (HEARTH Act), enacted into law on May 20, 2009, consolidates three of the separate homeless assistance programs administered by HUD under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act into a single Continuum of Care program; revises the Emergency Shelter Grants program and renames this program the Emergency Solutions Grants program; and creates the Rural Housing Stability Assistance Program (RHSP) to replace the Rural Homelessness Grant program.

VA Mandates Overtime to Increase Production of Compensation Claims Decisions
WASHINGTON, DC - May 16, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- As part of its ongoing effort to accelerate the elimination of the disability compensation claims backlog, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is announcing today that it is mandating overtime for claims processors in its 56 regional benefits offices. This surge, which will be implemented through the end of fiscal year 2013, will be targeted to eliminating the backlogged status of claims.
