Grant Makes Critical Home Repairs Possible for Low-income Families Nationwide

Washington, D.C.- September 9, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Rebuilding Together today announced a $2 million donation from Lowe’s to support the national safe and healthy housing organization. Rebuilding Together will use the grant to complete critical home repairs for low-income families nationwide.

A national partner since 2007, Lowe’s funds Rebuilding Together’s signature community programs, including Kickoff to Rebuild, an NFL-sanctioned community rebuild event, and other community revitalization projects across the country. This year, Lowe’s has teamed with Rebuilding Together to complete neighborhood projects in Charlotte, N.C.; Columbus, Ohio; Gerritsen Beach, N.Y.; Minneapolis-St. Paul; and New Orleans. In addition to funding, Lowe’s supports Rebuilding Together projects with hundreds of Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers.

“Lowe’s is truly a committed partner in helping Rebuilding Together fulfill its vision of a safe and healthy home for every person,” said Charley Shimanski, Rebuilding Together’s president and CEO. “From its financial contributions to the physical support of its employee volunteers, we are grateful to Lowe’s for its commitment to making a difference for families in need.”

Since 2007, Lowe’s has contributed more than $9 million to Rebuilding Together to improve local communities. With the help of Lowe’s Heroes, Lowe’s and Rebuilding Together have renovated and rehabilitated nearly 1,000 homes and assisted approximately 11,000 individuals, providing low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners with critical repairs, accessibility and safety modifications and energy-efficiency updates.

“It’s a pleasure to partner with Rebuilding Together because the work we do impacts entire communities nationwide,” said Joan Higginbotham, Lowe’s director of community relations. “Helping our neighbors make much-needed updates to their homes builds a renewed sense of pride and engagement that’s contagious to others around them.”

Lowe’s funding also supports Rebuilding Together’s AmeriCorps program affiliates in 22 states. For the past six years, Lowe’s funding has helped build the capacity of affiliates, enabling them to assist more homeowners and complete additional rebuilding projects in local communities.
